The leaves were all thicker and greener about the edges of the glade, enclosing it with an almost solid wall. No tree grew there, only rough grass and many tall plants: stalky and faded hemlocks and wood-parsley, fire-weed seeding into fluffy ashes, and rampant nettles and thistles.

–The Old Forest, The Fellowship of the Ring

The thistle is a plant found in most Middle-earth biomes, except for wastelands like Mordor and the Brown Lands. Like nettles, it causes a quarter of a damage point. Unlike nettles, you have to sprint through it, to recieve the damage. Being eight times pricked by thistles, causes 2 (2hearts) damage, and eighty pricks can theoretically kill a fully healed player, and you recieve this death message: "Person was pricked to death."

Thistles can be placed in flower pots, but have no real use except for decoration. They can not be crafted into dye.

Thistles can be used as a very weak trap. Even then, note that thistles will only damage players. Fast-moving entities are the only ones who will be hurt by thistles, such as rhinos, but they only achieve the speed when they are ridden by a player.

    • They're not that annoying. As long as the player is wearing armour, which is always prudent, they don't affect you.
