ā€œ Now ever and anon there was a red flash, and slowly through the heavy air dull rumbles could be heard.

ā€˜They have taken the wall!ā€™ men cried. ā€˜They are blasting breaches in it. They are coming!ā€™

The Return of the King, The Siege of Gondor

Mordor Orc Bombardiers are Mordor Orcs equipped with bombs. They are useful for wall-breaking, and thus paving the way for other Mordor Orcs. They are the servants and soldiers of the Dark Lord Sauron. It is said that the first Orcs were created by Melkor, made out of the Elves he tortured and bred in the First Age.

Killing a Mordor Orc bombardier before he drops his bomb is one way to earn the achievement "Bring Him Down!"

Spawning[]

These bombardiers can spawn day and night in Mordor, due to ash clouds from Mount Doom that block out the sun. This cloud also protects the Mordor Orcs from the debuffs they normally receive from the sun. They can also spawn in the areas surrounding Mordor, such as Ithilien, Gondor, Emyn Muil, Wilderland, and Dagorlad, but they will only spawn there at night or underground.

Mordor Orc Bombardiers spawn equipped with an Orc Bomb and an Orc torch, but once the bomb has been used they switch to an Orc scimitar.

Behaviour[]

Mordor Orc bombardiers will attack any nearby enemies of Mordor. With Mordor Orcs, the chance of being attacked decreases the higher the player's Mordor alignment gets, and when it reaches +100 they will no longer target you. They are very destructive due to their bombs. Unlike most Mordor Orcs, they are not capable of riding a Mordor Warg.

When not attempting to kill something the Mordor Orc bombardiers wander randomly, although like other creatures of darkness, they prefer unlit areas. They will not burn or be damaged by sunlight, but in direct sunlight they gain slowness and weakness effects, as do all other Orcs.

When not being engaged by an enemy, there is a chance that Mordor Orcs will start attacking each other in what is known as a skirmish. This fighting can spread and wipe out entire groups of Orcs. This happens with many other kinds of Orc, but it is most common with the Mordor Orcs. You can disable these skirmishes with the command /gamerule enableOrcSkirmish false.

Drops[]

Mordor Orc bombardiers commonly drop rotten flesh and their bones, and also have a few rare drop possibilities such as Orc steel ingots, maggoty bread, and Orc draughts. As well as these, they have a moderate chance to drop some of the equipment they are carrying. They will sometimes drop their Orc torch.

Hiring[]

Mordor Orc bombardiers can be hired from Mordor Orc chieftains, which spawn in Mordor Orc camps. The player must reach an alignment with Mordor of +250 or higher to hire them, and each Orc starts at a price of 50 silver coins. As always, as one's alignment increases, the price to hire bombardiers decreases, with a minimum price of 25 coins.

Advantages Disadvantages
Can blow through walls and do tremendous damage to tight formations of enemies Not good for defending forts; they can blow up friendly units by accident as well as enemy units
Features a melee attack to finish off foes Cannot perform ranged attacks
Relatively inexpensive, considering their destructive potential Cannot ride Wargs
Can be customized depending on your resources and/or needs Weakened by sunlight
Not a suicide bomber like its Warg counterpart Will act like a normal Mordor Orc if you have no more bombs to give them
