It was dark, but not too dark for the night-eyes of Orcs, and in the star-glimmer they must have offered their cunning foes some mark, unless it was that the grey cloaks of Lórien and the grey timber of the elf-wrought boats defeated the malice of the archers of Mordor.

–The Fellowship of the Ring, The Great River

Mordor Orc archers are Mordor Orcs equipped with Orc bows. Apart from that, the two mobs are the same in most respects. They are the servants and soldiers of the Dark Lord Sauron.

Spawning[]

These archers can spawn plentifully day and night in Mordor, due to ash clouds from Mount Doom that block out the sun. These clouds also protect the Mordor Orc Archers from the debuffs they normally receive from the sun.

They spawn in the areas near Mordor as well, such as Gondor, Ithilien, the Emyn Muil, Wilderland, and Dagorlad, but there they will only spawn at night or underground. They are able to spawn by themselves or in large groups, and take part in Mordor invasions.

Behaviour[]

Mordor Orc archers will attack any foes of Mordor, be it NPCs or players. As with all Mordor Orcs, the chance of being attacked decreases the higher a player's Mordor alignment gets, and when one's alignment reaches +50 for Mordor they will no longer be targeted.

When not attempting to kill something, the archers wander randomly, although like other creatures of darkness, they prefer unlit areas. They will not burn or be damaged by sunlight, however in direct sunlight they gain slowness and weakness effects similar to all other Orcs.

When not being engaged by an enemy, there is a chance that they will start attacking each other in what is known as a skirmish, this fighting can spread and wipe out entire groups of Orcs. This happens with most other kinds of Orc, but is most common with the Mordor Orcs. You can disable these skirmishes with this command: /gamerule enableOrcSkirmish false.

In the renewed version, these Orcs can defend themselves with a Mordor dagger at close range.

Drops[]

Mordor Orc archers commonly drop rotten flesh and their bones, and also have a few rare drop possibilities such as Orc steel ingots, maggoty bread, and Orc draughts. As well as these, they have a moderate chance to drop their bows or a piece of their armour.

Hiring[]

Mordor Orc archers may be hired from Mordor Orc commanders, which spawn in Mordor Orc camps, or from Mordor Orc spider keepers, which spawn in Mordor spider pits. They have a starting price of 40 silver coins and +200 alignment (+250 from a spider keeper) with Mordor. In addition to these, Mordor Orc archers may also be hired as a Mordor Orc archer rider, which ride Mordor Wargs. Warg riders have a starting cost of 60 silver coins and +300 Mordor alignment. As always, as one's alignment increases, the price of hiring units decreases, with players of high repute being able to hire archers for 20 coins and archer riders for 30 coins.

Advantages Disadvantages
Good armour and decent attack strength Weakened by daylight
Stronger than most faction Orcs Not particularly fast
Good against swimming enemies Inferior bows in comparison to other archers
