  • Hey ffets, Oldur here

    I don't know how active you are, but some guys have made efforts to start a new harda.

    I don't know, but I think people would love to see you join the new server (with the old builds!)

    Cheers,

  • So you might remember me talking a while back about a markup language that I'd like to create as a layer on top of html for use in web pages, basically an alternative to wikitext. You (and those who read your wall) have a fair bit of experience with wikitext, So I'd really appreciate your thoughts and input and my design. I have some basic (and more advanced things...) laid out on User:SamwiseFilmore/Waldoc. I'd appreciate a comment, and you can edit if you'd like. Feel free to ask questions here if you'd like as well. Thanks everyone!

  • As you know, recipes are used on crafting table pages and also their respective pages. This can occasionally lead to contradicting information. I have an idea that should prevent this, and in my opinion, make adding crafting recipes to pages much easier.

    I propose that each crafting table be used as a template. The code for crafting table pages would look something like this:

    <noinclude>CURRENTPAGECODE</noinclude>
    <onlyinclude>{{#switch: {{{1|}}}
    |NameOfCraftingRecipe1 = {{Grid/Crafting Table|Output=NameOfCraftingRecipe1|Input=InputStuff}}
    |NameOfCraftingRecipe2 = {{Grid/Crafting Table|Output=NameOfCraftingRecipe2|Input=InputStuff}}
    (etc.)
    }}</onlyinclude>

    Then, to add a recipe to a page you would type (including adding recipes to crafting table pages. Yes, I know this would mean the template would reference code from its own page, I tried it here and it seemed to work fine.)

    {{:NameOfCraftingTable|NameOfCraftingRecipe1}}

    I wanted to ask you about this first because you know a lot about templates and also about how the parser works and what affects page load times. Let me know if any of this pops up as a 'red flag' and also your overall thoughts on the idea. Thanks.

    • I tried the __NOINDEX__ on an existing recipe page and a new recipe page. In both cases it doesn't seem to have any effect. I think the magic word is aimed at people searching from Google, not this wiki. I would love to know if there is a good way to prevent the recipe pages from clogging up special pages like this one.

      Edit: That special page I linked will be updated in less than an hour and then we can check if the changed pages are still on its list.

    • I'm pleased to announce that all 24 crafting tables from the Mod and their associated recipes have been converted. Now, we just need to do the recipes on the vanilla crafting table. The best way I can think of to do this is to go through this page and find everything that hasn't been done yet. Going through the recipes class in the Mod's code may also be a good option, but some of the code can be a bit cryptic (such as LOTRMod.brick4) and that takes extra time. If you can think of a better way, please let me know.

  • I was under the impression that bandits did not spawn in the shire. Did the new update change that? I'm referring to your edit.

    • Nothing changed. Bandits still only spawn in the Shire Moors and Marshes, not elsewhere in the Shire.

        Loading editor
    • Ah I see, I never knew they spawned there, thanks!

      Yes, me too, until I read some of AlteOgre's edits some months ago. It was a shock for me as a Hobbit, because I always felt safe in the Shire. I couldn't figure out since when they spawn in the moors and marshes. The changelog doesn't mention it.

      When I was now re-reading some of the biome pages, I noticed, that it was missing in that paragraph and added it. Sometimes it's paying out to read other's edits as well.

    • Heh ..., I have a bad habit of using very long sentences, which makes me use relatively many commas as well ... and dots. :^)

    • Campinator wrote: ... your liberal usage of commas ...

      Ik, but for me, commas group parts of the sentence that belong together, so that you can easily spot, where something new starts. Ik English rather uses short sentences separated by fullstops. Probably German uses more commas, or I just put them, where I feel that they belong.

      I also like using

      • lists
      • like
      • that

      which is more readable, compared, to, an, enumeration, like, this.

  • Hey Ffets,

    As an expert on grids, I was just wondering if there is a better way to do this?

  • I love your idea for those tables on the armour category page. However, I'd like it to be just one table, preferably one that wraps instead of using a scroll bar. Do you have any idea how to do this?

    • You mean all in one long horizontal row?

        Loading editor
    • Yeah. I'd like a better solution (like some kind of wrapping for tables, rather than having that scrolling), but that is better for the time being.

  • Just a quick reminder, remember that there are supposed to be no mobs visible in structure images.

    PedeIcon

    • Why? The pastures are much more recognizable with animals in them.

        Loading editor
    • Purely for consistency's sake tbh. Mobs kinda make most structures look a little untidy. While pastures don't look as bad as some other structures would with mobs, I think that for consistency's sake the structure images should not have mobs in them.

      That seems reasonable. You are right. Especially with that bit of golden trader in that market stall. I couldn't get him right on the image.

      On the other hand, those isometric pictures without any background and void of mobs look too clean and artificial in my eyes. We should definitively also have "normal" photos how the buildings look in the world. We mostly do.

      Now this means more work for me to retake the photos without mobs. Edit: Done.
