The anvil is an item from vanilla Minecraft. However, the Lord of the Rings Mod changes its mechanics significantly. It is used to repair and reforge items.

Mechanics[]

The Mod's anvil operates somewhat like the anvil from the vanilla game, but its mechanics are different in a number of ways:

  • The Mod's anvil doesn't require nearly as much iron to create.
  • It can be used an infinite number of times and doesn't degrade.
  • Renaming items is free except for tools, weapons, and armour.
  • It doesn't use experience when repairing items.
  • The item's crafting material is necessary for doing any sort of crafting operations.

Renaming[]

AnvilGUI4

Renaming a flower as a birthday present.

To rename items, just edit the name in the grey area at the top. This is free, except for tools, weapons, and armour. Take out the renamed item(s) from the right slot. Renaming can also be combined with repairing, combining or alternating items.

Repairing[]

AnvilGUI1

Repairing a staff with skulls.

To just repair damaged items, put the item into the left slot, and the appropriate materials into the lower slot. A message will show up, displaying the repair costs. Take out the repaired item from the right slot.

Combining[]

AnvilGUI5

Combining two bronze daggers into one.

If you've got two items of the same kind, put them into the left and upper slot. Add the appropriate materials to the lower slot. The result (in the right slot) holds the attibutes of both items, and the durabilities add up. If you do this in you personal crafting grid, you loose the modifiers.

Altering[]

AnvilGUI2

Adding a modifier to a iron sword and renaming it at the same time.

To apply a modifier to an item, put the item into the left slot, a suitable scroll into the upper slot, and the appropriate materials into the lower slot. Not all combinations work. Select a new name, if you want to, and then take out the altered item from the right slot.

Reforging[]

AnvilGUI3

Reforging a bronze dagger on an anvil.

If you are unhappy with the attributes that an item has, you can reroll the dice by reforging it. Just hover over the small hammer icon the lower left corner to display the reforging costs. Fill in the appropriate materials into the lower slot and left click the reforge hammer. This also repairs damaged items. Take out the reforged item from the left (input) slot.

Warning: This doesn't only add new modifiers, you also lose the previous ones.

If you don't want to spend the materials for reforging, you can also have a blacksmith do it for some money.

Note: Each blacksmith can only reforge items belonging to a certain range of factions.

Crafting[]

As stated earlier, the anvil is easier to craft in the mod than in the vanilla game:
